Well this has been a long time coming, with plenty of legal and political wrangling, but Madmappers have finally got a mosaic of South Africa up, it is hosted on WorldWind Central in the Zoomit! layer so it will automatically display in World Wind without any additional installing.

The data is from SPOT 5 provided by SpotImage and collected in 2005, it is currently only 10m resolution but looks gorgeous, we have access to 2.5m but unfortunately SpotImage isn’t too keen on us showing that for free in World Wind, maybe if this layer is popular they may reconsider (feel free to email them saying how great you they are for letting us use their data).

The imagery does have copyright restrictions so please check with Maurizio of Madmappers if you want to use it in a non-personal use way, a big thanks to CSIR-SAC who made this possible and to Maurizio for processing the data, his colour algorithm is amazing.

Ok lets show of some screenshots -
